LIVERMORE, Alameda County — October 27, 2026. Future parks, trails and recreation facilities in the Livermore Valley will be shaped by a long-range planning process underway at the Livermore Area Recreation and Park District (LARPD). The district posted a September 2026 Public Review Draft of its updated Parks, Recreation and Trails Master Plan, intended to guide investments over roughly the next ten years.
What is under review?
The district says it presented the draft to its Board of Directors on August 26, 2026 and published it for a 30-day public review period beginning in September. Supporting documents include an Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration and an October 2026 regional-context map of proposed and existing trails.
This is a strategic master plan. It can help the district identify which parks, paths and facilities need attention, but it does not mean every trail extension or recreation building in the document already has a funded construction contract.
What can residents do now?
Because the initial 30-day period began in September, readers should not assume comments remain formally open under the original deadline. People who have an interest in access, maintenance, youth recreation, trail connectivity, park safety or equitable service across neighborhoods can check LARPD’s project page and contact the district for the most recent process and board consideration dates.
How to evaluate the plan
A useful public review should distinguish existing facilities from conceptual routes, identify priority criteria, list project-level costs where available, and explain potential sources of grants, district revenues or developer contributions. It should also explain accessibility and climate resilience measures in the Valley’s parks.
